Rhap Salazar another Charice in the making?
Ellen introduces a new Filipino to debut in the US television .... Rhap Salazar... Could Rhap be another Charice in the making? Rhap is the fourth Filipino that Ellen show invited to sing on her show. Arnel Pineda of the Journey, rin on the rox and our very own Charice...
Please continue supporting Ellen for her relentless support on good music by inviting some of the Filipino talent from the Philippines.. . Some critics says that this was not Rhap's best performance and some says he blew his opportunity by not giving his best on this performance given by Ellen.
I think what's important is that Filipino talent are being recognized and the fact that Rhap is only 12 years old. It may not be his best performance but i still think we should be thankful for that opportunity given to another Filipino talent. Goodluck Rhap.. Chasters like me will be behind you and will push you up along with our own Charice
Watch Rhap performance below

I highly doubt Rhap will be the next Charice. Honestly, this seemed like a pity guesting. It was his "wish" to be on the show. Charice didn't wish anything. To tell you the truth, I think some crazed fan of Rhap obviously relentlessly nagged The Ellen Show w/ his videos and excessive emails. The performance wasn't even great. It was sub-par and it lacked sooo many things. This is one performance to forget. Am I being too harsh? No. This is a chance of a lifetime and she even hyped him up in the beginning. To sound like some prepubescent little girl and give a half-hearted performance, just a complete let down. Don't hype up a person if they can't deliver. It's embarassing.

Thanks for your opinion. The thing about this performance is we are so used to hearing Charice deliver a knock out, goosebump, tear jerker performance that we are now trying subconsciously to compare Rhap performance with Charice's . Charice had set the standard so high that a performance like Rhap on Ellen recently can be called sub par . I still think what's important about this experience is Filipino talent are being recognize and i hope the ball keeps rolling and more Filipino gets invited to sing on american TV and i hope this would be a lesson to other Filipino who wants to follow Charice's footstep.

Charice has definitely paved the way for future aspiring Asian artists. To compare Charice to the others is simply impossible now. Others will simply be second best. Rhap was really subpar, in my opinion. It didn't blow me away, it didn't make me think. Instead it made me cringe and it was just awkward. A 12 year old boy singing a song by Celine Dion. Americans don't see little boys singing Celine Dion becoming a popular trend. It's not pop culture. And, it did come off desperate, saying it was his wish, blah blah blah. True talent gets discovered, just like Charice. I think since Charice was discovered, it's given a mindset to Filipinos that they'll be discovered a lot easier now. Part of it is true, but you all have to remember, there are hundreds of other countries out there waiting to get their chance also. Filipinos aren't the only ones that can sing. It just so happens, singing is like a national pasttime for Filipinos so vocals come naturally. Do all Filipinos deserve to be on mainstream American music..not all. There are some sounds/types that aren't made for mainstream America. Many Filipinos are excellent singers, but their voices are trained for operatic/ballad songs, therefore you see so many Filipinos getting their big break in Broadway/theatre. As for pop, it isn't that easy. Charice was discovered because she can be easily molded. She's a cute little Asian girl with an amazing set of pipes. With grooming & training, she can appeal to crowds which is slowly happening now. With Rhap, I'm just keeping it real to those who think Rhap will be "the next one". This kid won't be a Justin Bieber or some Disney act. Unless they have a feminine role. Not to be too harsh, but he doesn't seem marketable in America. The Philippines can market him because Filipinos love ballads. All the singers on ASAP09 are all ballad singers. They focus on ballads. All the teleseryes have ballad themesongs. Most of all the movies in the Philippines have ballads for their credits/previews. It's just how it is. With more and more training (and hopefully a deeper voice), Rhap will have an excellent career in the Philippines..maybe even around Asia as a "balladeer". Most likely, he will be the next Jed Madela.

We concur with the comments posted. Charice had set the bar too high that it's almost not feasible to get level. Charice got magic spell that make listeners cry, laugh and awe. As DF & OW witnessed, Charice got the power of love. As for Rhap, it's a good performance but not good enough for chasters coz spoiled by Charice's incredible talent. Per one comment, this is chance of a life time so level/ surpasss Charice or just fade away. We strongly doubt, DF will pay attention.

I have seen few Rhap performances, one thing I noticed she always cover song by female artist like Charice. He is good, he will be a great singer. He better try singing Justin T. music or try pop music, but I think he will not marketable in the US, one reason Pinoys are minority in this country and he needs to impress everyone not only Pinoys in order to be one on the popular top artist.
